Wit and Wisdom wins an audience

02/25/2010

On March 4, junior English major Elizabeth Wager will be presenting a Bergren Forum on her entry for the Wit and Wisdom competition. Phi Beta Kappa first hosted the competition last fall in lieu of the annual spring guest speaker. Out of three finalists, Wager was named winner by a judging committee. She was awarded the forum, two hundred and fifty dollars and a dinner in her honor.

“We considered the quality of writing, the academic excellence, originality of the work, and other factors,” said Dr. Juliana Gray of Phi Beta Kappa.

Student Senate President reflects on a challenging term

02/13/2010

Student Senate President Amos Mainville announced that he will not be running for re-election.

“I have had my time in Senate and feel it is time to pass the torch,” Mainville wrote to the Fiat Lux. Mainville, a junior engineering student, feels like he has a lot of work on his plate and thinks stepping down from his presidential duties will allow him more time to advance in his professional responsibilities. He thinks of his term as President as a successful one.

$20.10 Senior Initiative for gift, T-shirts

02/23/2010

As the graduation of this year’s senior class is only 11 weeks away, the proverbial ball is rolling to raise funds for the senior gift.

Results from a February survey to seniors determined that the senior gift will be replacing the brown welcoming sign on Main Street.

The $20.10 senior initiative is the method by which AU Pride will raise this money. When seniors donate $20.10, $10.10 goes towards the senior gift and the remaining $10 goes towards purchasing your own senior t-shirt. Designs for t-shirts will be unveiled in the book store before spring break.

Proposed state cuts would increase budget deficit

01/30/2010

If Governor Paterson’s proposed Executive Budget for 2010-2011 passes as it stands, the College of Ceramics could receive a significant cut in funding, meaning more budget cuts for the University.

“It will mean more cuts, but it will be a different kind of cut,” AU President Charley Edmondson said.
